Dr Josephine Barry  MB Bch BAO, MRCP, DMRD, FRCR, MBA, Consultant Radiologist with a special interest in Oncology Radiology.

Dr. Barry qualified from  C ork University Hospital with a distinction in her finals in 1981. She obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and passed The Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists. Josephine joined the Specialist Register in Radiology with an interest in Breast Radiology.

Dr. Barry underwent training in Breast Radiology in Edinburgh Hospital. She spent 11 years as a Consultant Radiologist in Scotland. Dr Barry returned to CUH in 2002 to take up post as Consultant Radiologist with special interest in Oncology and Breast Imaging.

Dr. Barry has helped develop the new Breast Radiology Department at Cork University Hospital and has instigated and coordinated the development of stereotactic biopsy and needle localisation biopsy and developed a training programme at Cork University Hospital in breast radiology for doctors.

Dr. Barry is on the steering committee for the Health Information and Quality Authority to assess quality assurance for Breast Radiology at this hospital. She has set up the only proper one-stop breast radiology service in Cork at Cork University Hospital with Dr Max Ryan. Dr. Barry has also developed the Breast MRI service at this hospital. She is now developing the Family History Breast Screening MRI service Cork University Hospital.

Dr. Barry is competent in all aspects of breast radiology, including mammography, ultrasound breast biopsy, mammotome biopsy, stereotactic biopsy and needle localisation biopsy and vacuum assisted mammotomy and its use in minimally invasive surgery.
